Kuro Kohi: Emperor of Darkness in the City of Luminance
Surpassing the ordinary coffee shop experience, KURO KOHI embraces the influences of the cave, industrial, and imperfection surface design features, transforming ordinary coffee consumption into an extraordinary experience.
The exterior expression emphasizes a dedication to natural materials through its rough textures and dark tones. A prominent dark gray stone plaque above the entrance emblazoned with “KURO” in white lettering, gracefully embodies the design inspiration and brand identity. Beneath the front facade, transparent glass panels offer a glimpse of the interior creating a seamless connection between the interior and exterior.
Upon entering, customers will encounter a ceiling light box around the counter, meticulously designed to captivate attention and reflect the aluminum features. This marks the beginning of an exploration into a more enigmatic and immersive ambiance as customers venture further into space. Seating arrangements are meticulously designed to cater to diverse needs, group sizes, and acoustic considerations. Adjacent to the entrance, a designated area provides spaces for waiting, individual seating, and larger groups, partitioned by a partially demolished wall adorned with coffee bean motifs. To the right, this area features a curved bench along textured stone walls and bare tree elements. The intimate, cozy setting is perfect for pairs or couples looking for a quiet coffee date. Conversely, on the left side, the space is designed for group seating, surrounded by textured concrete walls and a striking feature wall with exposed reinforcing steel bars, fostering an enigmatic atmosphere.
The interior environment foregrounds the use of exposed ceiling, and raw texture of materials evoking a partially demolished structure, creating a striking visual contrast along with the dim-spotted lighting that adds warmth and comfort, enhancing the space’s mysterious and adventurous atmosphere.
